The Solent Skiers Association (SSA) have supported the RNLI by holding jet-
ski events in aid of the rescue service and by attending and participating
in RNLI organised fundraising days and functions since the club began in

The RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews rescue an average of 22 people every day
around the coasts and waterways of Britain and Ireland. From 235 lifeboat
stations, they are well trained and equipped to put to sea in the most
fearsome conditions when the call comes. The RNLI is an independent charity
and receives no government funding and relies on public support.

Thank you,
The SSA Santas!

SSA - RYA Training School - Now Open!
April 2010 Congratulations to Allan Jones, Graham Hollidge, Sharon Perry, Duncan Johnstone, Theresa Stubbs and Paul Cannel on completing and passing their RYA PWC instructor course on the 17th -19th April 2010.

The course was run from the Solent Skiers Association site at Lee-on-Solent as the club has recently become recognised as an RYA PWC training centre. The weather throughout the course was phenomenal and not only did everyone gain their instructor certificates but also a little April sunburn.

The team intend to offer SSA members RYA PWC training at a very competitive cost and will be running courses throughout the season.

RNLI Bowled over by SOS Response!
February 2010

A bowling event has raised almost £1,500 for Portsmouth's lifeboat service.

SSA members joined the city's RNLI volunteers and other members of the public to help raise nearly £1500 with a 'Strike Or Spare' charity evening at the Bowlplex Bowling Centre, Gunwharf Quays.

All 20 of the centre's lanes sold out for Friday's event, named to fit in with the RNLI's national SOS fundraising campaign with Solent Skiers filling an entire three lanes for the marathon fundraiser!  All had a great time.

The money raised will be used by Portsmouth RNLI to continue its lifesaving service off the city's coastline.

Tim Ash, RNLI south east spokesman, said: 'It proved really popular and we were able to raise a fantastic amount to support the volunteer crew members who regularly give up their own time, and risk their own safety, to go to sea to help others and save lives.

'As we are a charity, the RNLI is incredibly grateful to all those who joined in with this event, and therefore helped support us on SOS Day. We are very fortunate to have such loyal and generous supporters.'

Solent Skiers take home the Mic Randle Award 2010
January 2010

In recognition of their outstanding work and effort in the personal watercraft sector the Solent Skiers Association were presented with the Mic Randle Award 2010 at the Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show yesterday (10 January).

Presented by the Personal Watercraft Partnership (PWP), the Mic Randle Award is given to those who have contributed most to the safe development of the sport. Chairman Andrew Norton congratulated the Solent Skiers Association (SSA) for raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity in the past six years describing them as a ‘model of a club.’

Theresa Stubbs, chairperson of the Solent Skiers Association said:

“We are really surprised and honoured to have won the Mic Randle Award. We enjoy keeping the slipway open and setting up our events but we couldn’t have done it without our members or the local support we receive.”

The Solent Skiers Association protects the interests of PWC users launching from the Daedalus Slipway at Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire.

The Mic Randle Award was created in memory of Mic Randle, one of the originators and pioneers of the PWC Training Course who sadly died in 2003.

January 2010

The biggest PW club event in Britain is back for 2010.

The Solent Skiers Association (SSA) committee has already started the hard work that it takes to organise the event, and are planning on taking 60 personal watercraft plus riders clockwise around the Isle of Wight for charity.

The SSA has chosen a new charity for 2010, Help for Heroes - an organisation formed to help those who have been wounded in Britain's current conflicts, and are hoping to raise in excess of £5,000 again.

Application forms are going to be available from mid-March 2010 and priority will be given to renewing 2009 members.
